Lifesavers and Body Snatchers
Join Valour Canada at The Military Museums for Dr. Tim Cook’ presentation “Lifesavers and Body Snatchers”, which includes a complimentary signed copy of his book, Lifesavers and Body Snatchers: Medical Care and the Struggle for Survival in the Great War (Complimentary books graciously provided by Manteo). Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience The Military Museums’ current exhibit “Blood, Sweat and Tears: Canadian Military Medicine”. This event is made possible through the valued collaboration between Valour Canada and The Military Museums, featuring the Army Museum of Alberta.
Cook will offer an illustrated presentation on his newest book, Lifesavers and Body Snatchers: Medical Care and the Struggle for Survival in the Great War. The shocking brutality of the fighting during the Great War led to medical innovations that saved soldiers’ lives. Doctors and surgeons prevented disease from decimating armies, confronted ghastly wounds from chemical weapons, remade shattered bodies, and struggled to ease soldiers’ battle-haunted minds. After the war, the hard lessons learned by doctors and nurses were brought back to Canada to further treat and save Canadians.
